Immediate Relatives of a U.S. Citizen:

Persons who qualify as immediate relatives of U.S. Citizens are highly preferred as candidates for immigration to the United States and fall within a preferred category of immigrants.  The following table is intended to indicate which relatives of United States citizens fall within this preferential category.

Immediate Relatives

Direct relatives qualify such as a child, a parent or a spouse.

Spouses of U.S. Citizens

Must be shown to be a valid marriage that is not a sham.

Children of U.S. Citizens

Provided Child is unmarried and under the age of 21.

Parents of U.S. Citizens

Provided citizen is 21 years of age or older.
